Harari is outlining three important revolutions from that period of time that really cemented the dominance of homo sapiens, of us. I want you to imagine that you were reading a book about the history of humans and that of course is what sapiens is, but just imagine this kind of fictional book where every single page of this book is a hundred years, it marks 100 years. This book blew my mind! A brief history of humankind in just 450 pages.

Still, Harari’s book is important reading for serious-minded, self-reflective sapiens. 2018-02-26 · Overall, Sapiens is a sweeping and sprawling book that attempts to cover alarmingly wide ground. In terms of early human history, Sapiens is a clear, accessible, and well-explained resource. However, Harari’s explanations of the present and (possible) future require greater scrutiny than his understanding of the past. Harari doesn’t avoid the distant past, when humans “were insignificant animals with no more impact on their environment than gorillas, fireflies or jellyfish,” but he is a skeptic and rightfully relies on specific source material to support his arguments—though he is happy to offer conjectures.

Men, Sapiens – en kort historik över mänskligheten av Yuval Noah Harari, är det värt att tjata lite om.

Sapiens is an intelligent, condensed history of humans. It provides well-grounded observations of the origins of religions, warfare, empires, science, capitalism, and much else. Although Harari’s influences are broad and he is no ideologue, he can be broadly categorized as an historian who judges past events and developments from within a progressive framework that is evidenced in his own life.

Sapiens is based on a series of lectures Harari gave in Jerusalem in the early 2010s, and it reads in fact like a bunch of TED Talks bundled together. The author (a historian specialised in medieval crusades, to begin with) sounds well versed in all sorts of disciplines: palaeontology, anthropology, history, economics and social sciences and a bit of philosophy to boot. One of the charms of Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens is that it avoids such simplistic explanations.
